When you look at some books on character and the behaviors of cats, it is obvious that many people do not have much about cats. It is not enough to just care about cats; you must know what goes on in the lives of them.
A cat’s personality and nature depend upon its breed. There are certain types of cats that are easily aggressive, such as Abyssinians, Toy Poodles, Samoyeds, etc. Some cats that need a lot of affection and time on their own are the Calico and Wire-Necked type of cats. They require a lot of attention.
The Amiable and Wonderful breed of cats usually enjoys the attention of their owners. While others are very quiet, but make up for their lack of vocal skills with activity. It depends on how you define ‘activity’!
Take the time to learn about cats in general and their history, so that you know how they behaved when they were young. Knowing your cat’s breed also helps you determine the personality you will get. Most cat breeds are the same but in different colors.
It is generally best to know a bit about the breed when you first bring your cat home. There is a chance that when you bring the new cat home, you are afraid that the new cat may not be right for you. This is completely natural, especially if you bring a cat home who is very aggressive or young, or has some kind of behavior problem.
Begin by taking the cat into the room where all the old things are located. You may find it easier to set the room up as a kitty jungle gym. Get the cat to sit on your lap while you put the cat supplies in the closet and start putting together some items for a puzzle.
As time goes on, you may find that your cat’s personality changes. At first, they may seem very lazy, then they may seem very active. You will have to observe and learn more about your cat to know when to expect this change.
It is not so bad to buy a book about cats because it will give you some tips and tricks on how to take care of your pet. These books are available at most pet stores.
If you are a person who buys a kitten from a breeder, you should look through the breed history and note which breed the kitten was born into. If the kitten was born into an abused breed, it may need special attention.
On the other hand, if the kitten is very sweet and displays good behavior in its early years, it is probably safe. Research the breed in advance so that you know what to expect. Also, keep in mind that a breed with a long coat may shed more, whereas a breed with a short coat may not.
If you live in a very cold climate, you may find that a shorter coat breed may be more appealing than a long coat breed. Of course, if you live in a warmer climate, you may prefer the longer coat.
Do not think that breed and history books are only for breeding history books. There are plenty of books available that are about cat behavior and general cat information. Learn what your cat is like as a kitten, and learn what kind of cat you want your cat to be.
